Helping the Warfield Environment Group

5 February 2017

Some of our Cubs and Scouts had a great time helping the Warfield Environment Group clear rhododendron plants from Hayley Green Wood, at the back of Westmorland Park.

Whilst rhododendron can look spectacular when in bloom they are in fact not native to this country and have spread in areas preventing other varieties of plants growing. Before the Environment Group started clearing it back Hayley Green Wood was one example where you literally could not move for these plants.

The Cubs and Scouts got stuck in with loppers and saws clearing a patch of ground (still finding time for hot chocolate and cake though!). Here they are in front of the pile of cuttings they amassed.

At 1st Warfield Scouts we take our role in the community seriously and are looking to do more with the Environment Group in future, including a Spring Clean on the 4th of March. We would like to thank Claire and her team for making us welcome.
